Naval Architecture Technician

Located in the heart of Old Québec, Concept Naval has been providing innovative, personalized solutions to ship operators, shipyards and other maritime stakeholders for more than 35 years. We leverage our team’s knack for putting innovative ideas into practice, from preliminary concept up through turnkey delivery, to carry out complex design, construction, modification and repair projects for a variety of vessels and other floating structures.

Job summary
Leveraging your technical knowledge, you will be called upon to actively collaborate in different stages of vessel design, modification, repair and re-engineering projects. Your chief mission will be to carry out designs and drawings for the multiple projects entrusted to you within the deadlines, quality standards and costs established by the company.

Your contribution to the team will be to…

  • Participate in design engineering aspects up through detail engineering;
  • Participate in stability tests and in writing stability booklets;
  • Take part in strength of materials calculations for structural verifications, inspections and shipboard surveys;
  • Participate in weight calculations;
  • Take part in projects to develop 3D models of various vessel systems;
  • Write up specifications and reports; and
  • Work with all Transport Canada and classification society regulatory documents.

  • Have college (CEGEP) training in Naval Architecture;
  • Possess 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar position;
  • Master the regulations and standards in force in the maritime industry;
  • Master drawing, modeling and simulation software; and
  • Be able to express yourself fluently in French, both orally and in writing;
    and possess a functional level of English.

Naval Architect – Marine Engineer

Job summary
Drawing on your ability to apply innovative ideas and the interpersonal skills needed to lead multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for carrying out complex projects involving the design, construction, modification and repair of various types of vessels and other floating structures.

With the help of your technical knowledge and analytical acumen, you will be responsible for the design and engineering of all systems that make up a naval vessel, with a view to achieving optimal performance while meeting the regulations and standards in force.

Your chief mission will be to handle engineering for the multiple projects entrusted to you within the deadlines, quality standards and costs established by the company.

Your contribution to the team will be to…

  • Determine client needs and establish the scope of the project;
  • Coordinate deliverables with various players, both internal and external;
  • Supervise plan and specification development by draftsmen and technicians;
  • Oversee and participate in the design of propulsion systems, structural elements, piping, HVAC and shipboard services;
  • Write analysis reports thanks to your mastery of the tools used to assess vessels’ hydrodynamic performance (seakeeping, maneuverability, underway resistance, and impact);
  • Assess vessel stability (study of lines plans and tilt tests) and approve booklets;
  • Solve technical problems requiring research and in-depth analysis;
  • Manage all project stages while staying within the deadlines and budget;
  • Draw up progress and follow-up reports; and
  • Actively participate in knowledge sharing (skills and expertise) in order to grow the team and ensure a competent up-and-coming generation of workers.

  • Be a current or eligible member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Possess 5 years experience in a similar position;
  • Master the regulations and standards in force in the maritime industry;
  • Master drawing, modeling and simulation software; and
  • Be able to express yourself fluently, both orally and in writing, in French and English.
